Steve's Recommendations

Hi.  Steve here again.  This page is a work in progress.  When it is finished, it will be filled with information, logos, and links to websites of restaurants, companies, artists, activities, products, and services that I personally recommend.  Clicking on these links will open new windows and take you to the websites of whoever or whatever you clicked on.  Remember, these are NOT paid sponsored links.  These are my personal recommendations, and I do just happen to have excellent taste - LOL!  These favorites of mine are in no particular order, although I am going to try and organize them by category (such as Favorite Restaurants, Artists, Fun Things to do in Chicago, etc.).

Based on numerous e-mails and phone calls from previous customers, I am going to go out on a limb here and state that, taking a Segway tour with Steve's Segway Tours will be the highlight of your trip to Chicago!  "That's awesome Steve", you say, "but what else should we do while here?"  I'm glad you asked me that question.  Here are my highest recommendations in no particular order:

Activities (Other than a Steve's Segway Tour)

Trikke Chicago - Unlike Segways, you ARE allowed to rent Trikkes and cruise around unsupervised.  Okay, I know what you're thinking - "Hey Steve, isn't this your other company?".  Why yes it is!  But do you know why we started Trikke Chicago?  Because Trikkes, both electric and body-powered, are incredibly fun to ride!  So why not rent Trikkes from us...er, I mean Trikke Chicago (whatever!), and explore Chicago's lakefront and parks on your own.

Urban Kayaks - Located along the Chicago Riverwalk a bit North and a bit West of us, Urban Kayaks is the premier Kayak tour and rental company in Chicago!  Started a few years ago by brothers Aaron and Asher, and best friend James, the "Kayak Boys" as we call them, have years of experience leading kayak tours.  The tours are fun, prices are reasonable, and their customer service is excellent!  Ask for one of the Kayak Boys, tell them Steve sent you, and hopefully they'll give you a discount (or ask me to call them for you).  Enjoy!

Tiki Boat Chicago Charters
 - Grab your swimming gear and hop onto the incredibly fun Tiki Boat which departs from Monroe Harbor.  Besides taking a Steve's Segway Tour, it doesn't get more fun than this!  Bring your iPod, beverages, and food for grilling for a party on the lake! Boasting 500 sq. ft of deck space, a water-slide, and USCG licensed captains, this is the most fabulous party on the water!  Tell Captain Pablo or Captain Joey we sent you and receive a discount!
Also, ask us about combining our tours with a Tiki Boat Rental!

Architectural Boat Tour - Take an architectural boat tour along the Chicago River with Shoreline Cruises.  These tours are wonderful!  There are several companies doing architectural river tours in Chicago, but I like Shoreline's tour guides the best.  Prices are reasonable (not great), and they have several other boat tours you can also choose from.

Museum of Science and Industry - A bit far removed from downtown Chicago, but well worth the trip.  The Museum of Science and Industry is a wonderful "hands-on" experience.  The building itself is magnificent, and the only building remaining from the famous "White City" of the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.  Alas, you can no longer ask for Freddy Atkins (Facilitator #2) to take amazing care of you.  That's because he's now a Steve's Tour Guide!

Art Institute of Chicago - I can visit the Impressionists wing of The Art Institute of Chicago over and over, and never get tired of seeing one of the finest collections of Impressionist paintings in the world!  I am not a big fan of the new 265,000 sq. ft. Modern Art building, but it is definitely worth visiting.  If you have never been here, GO!  With over 5000 years of art and culture respresented, this is a must do.  Open late on Thursdays.

Millennium Park Concerts - Chicagoans have enjoyed FREE concerts in the park since 1935.  Now the Grant Park Music Festival is located at the Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park (formerly at the Petrillo Music Shell in Grant Park) and there are free classical concerts every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, as well as rehearsals during the week, and Jazz, Music of the World, and Dance performances.  Pick up wine and food at Bockwinkle's, and enjoy the free performances.

MetrowalkZ - Looking to explore our wonderful city of Chicago a bit on your own?  On foot?  Then this is the website for you!  Metrowalkz self-guided sightseeing walking tours provide, visitors and locals alike, an opportunity to wander about our city with purpose and determination.  Metrowalkz provides downloadable maps and narratives for 11 different areas, with helpful links (CTA maps, free stuff, coupons) provided as well.

Food and Drink

Brown Bag Seafood - Located just a few buildings west of us, Brown Bag Seafood is a wonderful new restaurant owned and operated by Donna Lee.  It serves what Donna Lee calls, "approachable, affordable seafood".  With an outdoor patio where you can relax, eat and drink, and watch the pedestrians wander by on Upper Randolph, this is a great place to eat if you are starving on your way to us, or want/need to eat fairly quickly right after your tour.  I highly recommend the crab cakes, but whatever you order for your main, don't forget to add one of the cole slaws, and/or soup, and or veggie.  Everything is delicious!  Make sure you tell them that Steve sent you.  Enjoy.

Pazzo's - Are you looking for excellent Italian food, and at an amazingly affordable price?  Well look no further.  Pazzo's Cucina Italiana is the place to go.  The food is excellent!  Portions are plentiful, and prices are very reasonable.  The staff is friendly, and if I remember correctly, Wednesday is half-price bottles of wine day!  My favorite dishes are the pastas, but there are several that I love equally so maybe share with your dinner companions?  Ask for Paula when you get there, and make sure you tell her/them that Steve sent you.  Enjoy.
